I'm trying to locate a needle in a haystack here. I have, from an 1898 city directory, the fact that Augusta Walke, wife (and soon-to-be-widow) of Francis Edward Walke, lived at 50 Lewis Ave. in Brooklyn, NY. I'm trying to find her on the 1900 census. Francis died in 1899, and she might or might not still have been living at 50 Lewis Ave. (which seems to be between Myrtle and Vernon). One finder index said that that address should have been in Ward 24, enumeration district 727, but I'm having a devil of a time locating that district. Any clues from experienced census hunters?

The prize is the identity of a grandchild of my biographical subject, Henry Walke, commander of the Supply, Tyler, Carondelet, Lafayette, and Sacramento in the Civil War. I know from his son Francis's obituary that he left a wife and infant child, but I have not been able to determine the gender or name of the child; presumably that would appear on the census as a 1 to 2 year old if Augusta ("Gussie") had not moved yet.

Phooey. Just after posting this, I located it in enumeration district 342, not "727," and she'd evidently moved. Cold trail.
