Hi everyone.

I could use some help with identifying this. Any idea what it might be and from what era? Thanks for the help.

Thanks. I have Googled based on what you guys rather quickly identified, and it does indeed appear to be a frog for the trapdoor rifle. Any idea what these are worth, and whether or not replicas/fakes exist? I see an offer for sale and the only thing I have to be able to make a decision is the 2 pictures above.

@Rusk County Avengers hit the nail on the head, though I am jealous that you are sitting at a bar!!!! Lockdown Larry of the great state of Maryland has yet to open bars, for good reason.
We were 6 feet apart except for the lady I was with :D

There's NO reason for anyone to fake this - despite it being "real" and fairly old, it's also really common, besides being incomplete, hence of little value. (Unlike the Civil War versions, the actual scabbard for these was black-painted tubular steel.) The period these fall into, usually called The Indian Wars is really a black hole for most collectors, because apart from a very few important conflicts like Little Big Horn nothing very exciting was going on and therefore nobody cares. The same can be said for the now virtually unknown and likewise ignored Spanish-American War, during which these were still in use among members of the National Guard still armed with Trapdoor rifles.

You mean...GASP!!!...this item wasn't with Custer at the Little Bighorn like every other accoutrement/weapon of the Indian Wars era? (eyerolling emoji). I'm sure the guy selling this has a binder with all the documentation to prove that was the case (insert a more prolonged eyeroll here).

Thanks for the info guys...I knew I could get answers here.

That points up another "problem" with this - it's for infantry only, the least "glamorous" branch of service in this period by far. If it were cavalry or even artillery there *might* be a little more interest.
