Antebellum Artillery Uniform?

Does anyone recognize the unit/location/date of this artilleryman illustrated by the late Bruce Marshall? I presume it's 1830s/40s Republic of Texas, but I'm not certain of that.

Is there anything that puts this in the Republic time period and not during the Mexican War time frame?

I will have to find my books on Uniforms of the Texas Republic. Bruce Marshall' is know for his books the Uniforms of the Alamo and also his book Uniforms of the Republic of Texas. The first thing is the headwear appears to bee the enlisted 1821 pattern leather cap.

Nope. Marshall specialized in the Republic period, but this could easily be outside that.

This is one of Bruce Marshall's books on the subject. those that are familiar with this book will know that the image in post #1 is not form this book because each image in the book includes a flag. The book does not show an artillery uniform but the uniforms in post #1 is consistent with the uniforms worn by the Republic of Texas Infantry excepts the trim.

I am not sure on this one. Does anyone recognize the shako plate? I know a bit about the shako plate worn by the Republics of Texas infantry but do not know what plate the artillery wore.

FWIW, a lot of Republic of Texas uniforms were surplus US uniforms that has been phased out, with new buttons and insignia added.

That uniform looks similar to the "Milam Guards" uniform From the Republic of Texas, so I'd go with a Texas Army artillery unit. Plus his trim is consistent with US Artillery uniforms of the time.

Also ucvrelics, I want that hat!
