Another Naval Belt Wreath

Here is another buckle I excavated beautiful sharp crisp wreath, a nice patina and as usual no tongue found as of yet but still searching. I would say this is one of my best buckles I dug up. Appears to be an early Naval wreath, this one was deep around 2 feet !! Our naval forces of the Pacific Squadron at that time was limited to a few ships we had no Pacific ports other then some in the Hawaiian Islands we used to purchase food and water. Throughout the history of the Pacific Squadron, American ships fought against several enemies. Over one-half of the United States Navy would be sent to join the Pacific Squadron during the Mexican-American wars. So perhaps he was a sailor or more likely an officer in the Pacific Squadron who like many went AWOL , discharged or retired from service and went to the gold fields.
