I scan eBay near every day for bits and pieces from my favorite Civil War regiments. Ancestors, local regiments, even regiments that I randomly become engrossed in from my gravestone cleaning adventures. Last month I was shocked to see this listing.

I thought it had to be a scam. There sat a reunion ribbon for the 131st PA infantry, a regiment my 3rd great grandfather served in from 1862, to 1863.

And it was only a dollar. Plus shipping.

"Why not? Let's try it" I thought, let's see what I actually get.

Turns out the listing was legit, and I'm the proud owner of a ribbon from an ancestors regiment. Sometimes, good bargains can be found, sometimes they're more special than for the value. This one means a good bit to me, and I'm going to find a nice case to display it in.

You would think with all of the TV shows out there talking about valuable treasures in attics etc. that people would do a tiny bit a research before putting something online for sale. But, never underestimate how lazy and foolish folks can be. There sloth is your gain!

He was living, and in Pennsylvania at the time. It is indeed possible.
Have you checked newspaper articles from the time of the reunion to see? It was not uncommon for local papers to print short articles noting who had gone to attend a reunion. If you could confirm that he went it would make the ribbon even more meaningful.

I looked up the seller's name and found that it was a brick-and-mortar antique store in Vermont. I was surprised they didn't understand what they had, but maybe their expertise isn't in Civil War memorabilia. It sounds like they do more in the way of furniture and other home furnishings. Anyone living in the area might want to stop by and see if they have anything else Civil War-related for a really low price.
