An 1863 Flower Garden

As I sit here looking at the snow and plotting my summer flower garden, I'm wondering what sort of flowers would be blooming in front of homes in 1863. Daylilies? Queen Anne's Lace? Sweet William? So many roses are hybrid now. Might any gardeners on this forum know what were the popular garden plants of that time?

I've read that perennials (peonies and iris), larkspur and poppies, and bulbs (daffodils and snowdrops) that would return and multiply every year were quite popular.
