Ambrotype or Ferrotype?

Any idea of this type of photography with this happy couple?

It's not an ambrotype, probably a ferrotype, and the subject appears to be two happy reenactors.

Definitely not a ambrotype. It's either a tintype or a ferrotype. I agree with @Lampasas Bill, it looks like reenactors.

Exactly we were told not to smile. \o/ I think this may have been from am earlier Gettysburg anniversary (148 or 49).

I knew it was one or the other. It is like a metal negative.

We have a larger tintype of our old artillery unit hiding somewhere. Don't get old as objects do have a habit of disappearing.
