AI Renderings

No question AI is a two edged sword. Knowing what, and what not, to believe has become a daunting task.
yep. there is soo much AIslop out there and it is a major issue.
(and then add the issue of of people trying to effect modern politics by AI generated fakes... It have not really happened yet yo my knowledge, but it is only a matter of time)

But to look at the positive argument.
It is basically just another step over how it a few years ago was impressive to see a lot of civil war photos colorized.
Or how Peter Jackson made a documentary on The Great War with both color and sound, based on historical black and white, soundless recordings... I do think that project added value to our collective understanding of the period.

So if the people who do it have the needed knowledge of the persons and period and use one or more historical photos to generate short colored video clips... then I do see the value.

And critically, that it is completely clear from the material that is is AI generated...

But too much of what is out there is just AI generated with no "oversight" by people who know the material.

The primary difference between good and bad AI is whether it is "generative AI" or "analytical AI."
- Generative AI is essentially robotic plagiarism, as it takes available information on the internet (whether it be fake, real, or even AI-generated itself) and spits it out as "facts."
- Analytical AI, meanwhile, is much more limited in the sense that it must be given information, which it then analyzes using similar data.

I have used Analytical AI myself, a special app on my Chromebook known at Notebook LM, which allows me to read Civil War-era documents with often faded or illegible handwriting. The AI in Notebook LM is able to transcribe these pages for me, which is assuredly better than trying to adjust the light density myself or squinting at a bright screen on late nights.
