I'll take it this stimmed from the Indiana/Illinois regiment thread the other day? Haha. Thanks for putting this together johan_steele.

Small Arms At Gettysburg , Bilby, Joseph B.
United States Martial Flintlocks , Reilly, Robert M.
It would be great to have all of the books listed in this thread.

"It would be great to have all of the books listed in this thread."

Actually, I do have them! I don't understand why anyone who is intertested in a specific topic wouldn't buy a book about that topic because "Oh, it's too expensive." Really? I mean SERIOUSLY?

I'll relate a quick example. I encouraged a collector/dealer friend to buy Paul Davies book on Richmond arms, which he did. About six months later I bought a Richmond socket bayonet off his table for $60 because he never read the book! You aren't going to learn what any book has to offer by osmosis, you will actually have to read the book!

Also, the list of "good" ACW reference books is nearly endless. I say that as I look over 3,000 + books on my shelves. OK, my wife is over-due to be "Sainted"!

My problem is that every time I get a line on Arming the Suckers or Todd's Military Equipage Vol 1 by the time I get to the link the !@#$% is sold.

Actually, I'm not doing too bad. I have 18 of the books listed.

OK, I'll come clean, I should probably tell you that I started my "Library" in the late 1950's. If you think ACW books are expensive, just start adding limited edition books on Powder Horns and Kentucky Rifles to your library and see how fast they add up!

J.

I have most of the books listed above.

If anyone gets a chance, visit the following libraries:

Chickamauga National Battlefield Park's Library
National Firearms Museum in Fairfax, Virginia.
NRA Whittington Center (near Raton), New Mexico
Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado (they have fourteen six-shelf bookcases on guns).

Some to add:

Confederate Arms by William A. Albaugh III and William N. Simmons

Tyler Texas by William A. Albaugh III

Confederate Carbines and Musketoons by John M. Murphy, MD

Confederate Handguns by William A. Albaugh III

Brass Framed Colt and Whitney by William A. Albaugh III

The Original Confederate Colt: The story of the Leech & Rigdon and Rigdon-Ansley Revolvers by William A. Albaugh III and Richard D Steuart
