Impressions Accouterment Purchase Question

Consider buying really good gear up front. These are my leathers I got at Shiloh in 1987 (Jarnagin). They've got well over a year of field use (haven't been to an event since 04). You will get a lifetime of use out of one set with good materials and construction. I'd also say buy a canteen that's US made through-out. S&S sells excellent haversacks and shelters, knapsacks. Obviously MBS is great but prepare to be patient. Lots of good vendors just gotta research. Buy a really good canteen the first time first

My only problem with buying the right gear up front is... I can't afford it. My captain has been asking when I can fall in, and I do have an event coming up.
Unless I find a used set for a reasonable price of high quality gear, I'll just have to defarb the lower quality gear for now.

Most groups have some loaner gear for new members to use while they get their kits together. Did they offer and/or did you ask?

I did ask, and they do offer a kit for borrow. However (As my luck is worse than dirt), to collect it is 6-7 hours in one direction, and then the event is backtracking that 6-7 hours, and then 5 hours in the other direction.

This first reenactment is a small "WCWA non-sanctioned" event, way outside of Washington.

Idaho is one of the worst spots to end up for a reenactor.

(Edit: Sounds like a pitiful amount of excuses. In truth, I simply seem to have drawn a bad hand)
