I'm curious at account disparities, and modern reinterpretions that don't seem based on actual period accounts, here's an example I came across in the period.
There was a multiple lynching by the people of Lawrence KS in 1885.
Here's one modern account, this one is collaborated by period newspapers.

Yet here's an entirely different modern account by some Rev Taylor who protrays it different, though no source is given for the completely different version.
