I have not seen this picture of Sherman. I have read about a young red headed lieutenant in 1844 who visited Atlanta, Cassville,and most of North Georgia. That looks like him

I've never seen this image either, thanks for posting.
He looks allot more laid back than in most pictures.

Kind of like Forrest's early images.

He does look kind of young in this photo but he was promoted to Major General of the volunteers effective May 1, 1862. 42 years old.

He did have kind of a reverse-aging thing going on though! Actually got better looking as he aged:

If I recall correctly he was surveying, so he was very familiar with the territory when he arrived back there during the war!
