A USE FOR DOGS

The city authorities of Petersburg , Virginia, have dog catchers employed in the killing of all stray dogs about that city. Their corpses are converted into saltpetre in the nitre beds in the neighborhood, and then into gunpowder. Soldiers are using this powder are said to make a peculiarly dogged resistance.
