Sorry I do not recognize the regiment. I have a general interest in Civil War uniforms but am no expert on New York Militia uniforms. This triple-breasted coatee has unusual button hole trim on the cuffs. Also the collar's trim is a bit different as.
well.

Is there any more information about where it came from? What kind of buttons are on the coatee? It does have the appearance of a Pre Civil War or Civil War tail coat, but without any additional information I can not help much. There are people who are experts in New York uniforms.

As a general trend the collars on post Civil War coatees were less tall. This does not mean that all pre war coatees had tall collars nor does it mean that all post war coatees had short collars. However the height of the collar is a starting point when studying a coatee. Additional trends were less chest padding post war, and less padding in the shoulders. Padding in the rump is usually a sign of earlier coatees (one put padding in the chest, shoulders and rump to make the waist look thinner). Also how low or high the sleeves attached to the shoulders got a bit higher in post war coatees.

It does resemble a Civil War era uniform looking at the collar, and it looks yellow Cavalry branch braid on the collar. The rest of the coat as pictured could go either way. I am not sure. Post war maybe, but it looks prewar. What we can't see are the buttons or several shots of the interior construction. A musician's coat? More info is needed, more pictures always helps. New York militia or another state is open to more discussion.
