NF A Stillness at Appomattox

Non-Fiction
I have read all of Catton's books and definitely recommend them. Catton's level of scholarship may not be up to the standards of many people, but he combines an entertaining and quick paced read with a comprehensive overview of the many CW subjects he dealt with.
I have it here, waiting to be read, along with The Coming Fury and The Terrible Swift Sword. I'm reading 1861, I wonder how much of that came from The Coming Fury.

Catton's books are easy to read and provide a good overview of the subject in question. If that's what you're looking for, then you'll be happy with any of his books. If you want in-depth history then you need to look to other authors.

Just as an after thought, "A Stillness at Appomattox" is the third book of Catton's Army of the Potomac trilogy. You may want to read the other two first, if you haven't already done so.
