A somber day

I have spent some time this morning thinking about what was happening at this minute 150 years ago today. It's fascinating to ponder. Been in kind of a somber mood. I wonder about other people yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Do they even realize? Care? I know everyone on this site feels the same I do but it's scary to think how many dont know anything of these days significance. Those with ancestors I know feel a special pride on days like these. I'm glad there are those among us who honor and remember. Fascinating stuff.

We care, and we can help those we know to care. Make the topic interesting, fun and personal and people will care. :)

I share your thoughts and feeling about remembering our heritage in the Battle of Gettysburg. It is our mission, as good stewards of our nation's history, to interest upcoming generations in keeping this history alive! Should this history be allowed to vanish, only we are to blame. Keep the history alive! Keep the pride alive! Keep the honor alive!

There would have been some interest in the big battle raging in Pennsylvania, probabley people fearing for there loved ones that they knew where fighting there, but most likely the would have gone about their daily lives.

CTH,
I don't wish to be argumentative, but...
I'm not too convinced there was a great deal of apathy toward the battle and invasion of Pennsylvania. It put citizens in quite a stir! Many left their homes and farms, fleeing to the cities with worldly goods in tow. Newspapers front-paged the Rebellion's events and undoubtedly conversation buzzed at every town square and lodge regarding the proximity of the "rebels".

I know that. I meant in other parts of the country where there was no invasion.
