A Soldier's Dream

This puzzled me at first glance. Until I made out the faint, ghostly figure standing behind the sleeping man.

The latest in Ron Coddington's wonderful Flickr photostream, the subject is identified as Capt. John Huey Weeks, formerly an officer in the 91st Pennsylvania Vols, but in this photograph he wears the trousers from his time as Captain in the 3rd Veterans Reserve Corps (an a civilian coat). The cdv was made by Wilson Bros. & Co. of Hartford, Conn. -- Capt. Weeks spent about 9 months of his VRC service in Connecticut.

That was posted several weeks back by JPK Hudson, I believe, showing "spirit" pics, where a relative that had passed is imposed into the photo looking like a "ghost" in the background. Creepy idea....

I missed that posting, have to look it up.

Is it, an image of a lost loved-one hovering protectively over the sleeping soldier? I should think that in that case it would be a picture sent to him as a comfort, not of, and presumably made at his direction.

Correct, the lost loved one is supposed to be watching over the still living. Hudson (if I remember correctly, or if it was one of the other ladies here, my apologies) posted a whole slew of these creepy things. Some were soldiers, but most I recall were civilian pics, with living family members and presumably dead loved ones.
