Four Sergeants

Ron Coddington's latest entries in his great Flickr photostream includes these four sergeants, three of them with "seegars."

An interesting range of uniforms. First Sergeant seated, left; looks like he's popular, with appreciative hands on his shoulders and knee. Anybody know the meaning of the badge and eagle on the inside lapel of the the other seated man? It's so placed that if his coat were buttoned up it would be in the center of his chest. Provost badge? His hat also appears to be non-military.

The 2 sergeants on the left side look like slightly younger versions of actor Kirk Douglas.

My guess is they are brothers. Look at the noses.

Based on the shape of the medal and the fact the man wearing it is not in uniform suggests that this is a post war photo and possibly a reunion of comrades or brothers. The medal looks very much like the 1887 Missouri Souvenir GAR badge as depicted on this page.
