A positive good

Is there anything that can tell us how widespread the slavery as a positive good theory was in the CS during different years. Example do we have any speeches or letters by confederates calling the cornerstone speech bunk. Believing blacks are inferior is one thing believing enslaving them is a positive good is another. Curious as to evolution of thinking in a society enduring war on its doorstep.
