A ghost encounter?

During my last trip to the US I spent two nights in the Old Island Hotel at Cedar Key, Florida. The building was built as a general store shortly before the Civil War broke out and is said to be haunted by as many as 13 ghosts, among them a Confederate soldier said to stand guard at the door to the wraparound balcony each morning shortly before sunrise. When I sat down in the hallway on the second morning (I was out early the first morning to watch the sunrise from the fishing pier) to wait for him I didn't see anything.

Another ghost is supposedly that of a young child. As the story goes, before the Civil War ended, the owner of the general store saw a black boy of maybe 9 years put something in his pockets. He chased the perceived thief out the backdoor, and then the boy was never seen again. A year later, workers cleaning the cistern in the cellar found the remains of a child at the bottom of the cistern. They suppose the boy hid in the cellar when running away from the owner and drowned. The boy's ghost still likes to hide in the cellar but sometimes comes up into the kitchen to stare at the kitchen staff.

During my first night I was awakened in the middle of the night by a couple of footsteps in front of my room. I didn't hear anything else afterward, like e.g. a door which would have suggested someone was leaving very early or coming in very late. I lay still and waited - no idea for what. It was pitch black in the room (it was around 4 a.m.; I eventually checked my cell) and I couldn't see anything. At some point a shiver ran down my spine. I wouldn't say it was because I felt being watched, or that someone (something?) was in the room with me. But what do I know - I never had such an experience before.

Has anyone else stayed at the Old Island Hotel and experienced something unusual?

When I stayed at the Cashtown Inn, I couldn't help but notice that everything in the Inn was geared to the ghostly background of the Inn and so, it came as no surprise to me about the shadowy figure standing in the corner of my room at 2AM. It didn't bother me and I didn't bother it, besides; my ghosts have always come from my past and not from someone else's. :skull::skull::skull:

Sounds awesome

After my grandmother passed away from cancer last year my Cousin was there to put fire before the rest of the family came for the funeral. In the basement and my cousin, his sister just passed away and he saw my grandmother spirit on the stair case looking down on him. He turned his head she was gone. I believe she came from heaven to get my cousin spirit from the house because we had my cousin in her coffin in the living room for a few days before we buried her, beside my grandmother on the mountain where our family home is. He also later heard at 4:30 am that morning somebody was making a spoon noise in a bowl in the kitchen and no one was there. Now my grandfather is buried beside my grandmother and my cousin. 2020 has been a awful year for us. Last time I went up there after my grandfather passed. It was to hard to sleep there in the bedroom next to my grandparents room because I know they weren't there anymore. My grandfather's last words before he passed was "I'll get on up!". Then he went to heaven. My aunt also said that before he passed that she help him use the bathroom the night before and she was having trouble to help him because he was going and she could feel her mom touch her shoulder.

Thank you for sharing that @JD Mayo. That comes from your heart. May they rest in peace and rise in glory.

Thank you and they are. My profile photo is of my grandfathers ancestor during the Civil War who was a flat boat worker and farmer and teacher. He also built the Gaines Block in Hot Springs Arkansas. No longer there now.

Are you serious? You actually saw a shadowy figure standing in your room, in the corner? That would send a shiver down my spine!
I took the Ebenezer Scrooge stand on the subject that it was just a blat of mustard or some undercooked meat-nothing more-besides if you had spent your life living in a squad bay with 50 Marines or a dormitory with 10 firefighters, you get use to shadowy figures and strange noises in the night.
