A different Lincoln

To all on this forum who for whatever reason disapprove of Lincoln's behavior as president.

What would Abraham Lincoln have to have done differently in order for you to - if not necessarily approve as in regard as a good president - accept his policies as, well, acceptable?

Comments such as "Suicide." are not appropriate.

Also, what would the point of a different course of action?

For instance, if you believe Lincoln should have given in at Fort Sumpter, are you saying that you believe he should have surrendered any and all Federal property desired by the seccessionists in order to avoid war?
