Got into ACW relic hunting back in August and today dug my first Confederate Gardner bullet (fired) and a beautiful intact Confederate "Script I" infantry button. According to Albert's book, it is from S. Isaacs Campbell & Co., London; came through the blockade possibly. Really cool find.

Congrats as your first finds are awesome. These are the relics that keep us coming back for more. Keep it up as you must be in a GREAT spot.

Nice finds! I've only been detecting a few times. I remember being next to where someone had dumped some trash and pieces of black hose, but as I looked more closely one of the hoses moved a little. It was a snake! I quickly swung my detector head back and forth over it a couple of times but didn't get a ht. I then called over to the guy I was detecting with, "Don't worry, it's not a copperhead!" Just think of all of the cool stories you'll bring home along with your treasures.

Had another pretty good hunt yesterday, five dropped Gardners and one dropped 3-ringer. Button back has a Scovil backmark but unfortunately didn't find the front.

Question on the 3-ringer, can anybody tell me the specific manufacturer? There's no mark on the inside, but what struck me as interesting is the bottom of the skirt is very thin and uniform all the way around. Other 3-ringers I have seen have much thicker bases. It could just be a generic Union round but I though it looked interesting.
