This NC unit was trained and drilled as an artillery battery but, because adequate artillery was unavailable, the unit was in danger of being disbanded and incorporated into the infantry. In April of 1862, the Tredegar Ironworks Foundry poured four distinctive cannon – two six- pounder and two twelve-pounder Howitzers – which were assigned to the battery. The muzzle face of each cannon was marked with its foundry number and the letters “E.B.”
What was the name given to the NC battery to which these four cannon were assigned?
