Officially, the figure on this regimental monument at Gettysburg does not depict a specific individual because battlefield commission rules prohibited statues to regiments' commanding officers. But this late leader's men honored him, nevertheless, with a likeness that was plain to them. Who was the officer and what regiment included him on its monument?
