I am not sure, I would like to guess the trivia answer would be the Sand Creek Massacre of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians. Women and children accounted for two thirds of the dead. In 1864, the Colorado Milita attacked the Cheyenne & Arapaho.
Edit - Mary Beth, you are probably correct that more people died in the Sand Creek Massacre than in the mass hanging on December 21, 1862, but that was a military attack rather than an execution carried out in accordance with a court sentence.
