Ormsby McKnight Mitchel was a Civil War general who was involved with astronomy.

However, he died in 1862, so he couldn't have been at Gettysburg.

I'll have to keep looking.

Probably way out of line here, have no idea really, but here is a "near parabolic comet" (whatever that is!) called Lee. It is definitely in outer space.

seriously, now...on Voyager 2 the name Johnson is on the golden disk of recordings and General Edward Johnson was at Gettysburg

After going through the bios of every Gettysburg generall (Union and Confederate), I could find nothing to indicate any connection with outerspace. Nor could I find any mention of one of them having a comet, asteroid, deep space probe, minor planet, satellite or any other item from the Final Frontier named after them. So, I'll just have to venture a guess on this one. Winfield Scott Hancock. May The Force be with you .........

Ormsby Mitchel has a crater on Mars named after him, Chamberlain has a rock on the Mars surface named after him. However Mitchel was not a "Gettysburg General" and Chamberlain was only a Colonel at Gettysburg but he was there, I'm going with JOSHUA LAWRENCE CHAMBERLAIN.

Edit - I have the feeling that players were led astray in the belief that the correct answer would have to be someone who had attained the rank of general by the time of the Battle of Gettysburg, which Chamberlain had not.
