Read about them some on the signage and in the Visitor Center at Five Forks on this day in 2016. I have a friend whose wife has an ancestor who served in that Regiment. My friend has done some research on the 6th Michigan Cavalry.

@kappclark:

Finding a photograph of a Civil War ancestor is not an easy task. If a photograph of Jeremiah Kilmer (Company K, 6th Michigan Cavalry) exists, it could take you years to find it. Here are places to look:

-All members of your immediate family.
-All members of your extended family.
- The County Historical Society where Jeremiah Kilmer lived.
- The Michigan State Historical Society.
-All books published on the 6th Michigan Cavalry.
-Was Jeremiah Kilmer at Gettysburg? If yes, contact the National Park Service at Gettysburg. They have a large photograph collection of soldiers who fought at Gettysburg.
-Place a 'Want Ad' in Military Images Magazine. Yes, this cost a few dollars and many Civil War photograph collectors will see it.

Wow ! _ I have some real homework, but just think of what I will see along the way ! Looking forward to working through your wonderful list , and many thanks.
