To all whom may be concerned:

This is the sad state of affairs, I found the 49ths memorial monument at the Bloody Angle, Muleshoe Saliant Spotsy CH last fall. I have sent this photo to the unit's POC up there in NY. He assured me that he would follow through with those who handle such affairs. I am planning to circle back to that hollowed ground soon and see if it has been corrected. I feel an affinity for the battlefield and that particular spot; as it is closest to home.

If any one has been by there recently plse let me know what the condition of the memorial is today.
Thanks ,

I can't like this message as that whole situation reminds me of another place with the word slaughter pen in it. The Slaughter Pen at Gettysburg- near Devil's Den - I believe.

IMHO Legal murder at Spotsy …Those are appalling after action report numbers. This was the start of the end of it. Slug fest after Slug fest. Brutal but i opine that without entrenching it could have been a lot worse standing out in the open blasting at each other. As I tend to say - canister trumps all.

As a Southern born and bred but to NYC parents I do admit that my tendencies do have a strong southern pull. IMHO To me to see this wonderful memorial monument listing in its current attitude bumped me the wrong way and I am hoping it has been righted - divinely or the powers that be.

Nonetheless, I do plan to revisit Spotsy soon when we do our Wilderness Battlefield pic tour. I don't care if it would take a public donation drive to do it! I am on-board to see the 49th NY restored to original position of honor and pride. Not for them entirely - but also for us to remember those days of honor and valor!

And all Gods children said…Amen!
