The Battle of Droop Mountain.

Edit - Correct, Billy_Mojo. Welcome to the trivia game.

Unfortunately, you have come along just as the game is going on hiatus. Hope you'll come back and join us again when the game resumes in January.

Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Droop_Mountain states: "
On November 5, 1863, Averell attacked Confederates at Mill Point in Pocahontas County, driving the Southerners from their position back to the summit of Droop Mountain, where they were reinforced by a force under Brig. Gen. John Echols consisting of Patton's Brigade and one regiment from Albert G. Jenkins's command. The Confederate position was a relatively strong one, reinforced by breastworks commanding the road.
The following day (Nov. 6), Averell elected to attack (Confederates being on the summit of Droop Mountain). Throughout the morning, Echols' smaller Confederate force held the high ground and blocked the highway with artillery".

Since I will take the date of Nov. 5 as a specific element of the Trivia Question AND all other sources specifically cite the date for the Battle of Droop Mountain as Nov. 6th AND since all sources I have found cite the Battle of Droop Mountain as a SINGLE day battle,
my answer will be:

The "West Virginia" battle that took place on November 5, 1863 is the Battle of Mill Point.

Further, the website "Hillsboro, West Virginia at http://www.hillsborowv.com/Hillsboro_News/Walking_in_the_footsteps_of_West_Virginia_infantry states: "Moving south from Beverly on November 3, 1863, Averell's forces quickly drove the outnumbered 19th and 20th Virginia Cavalry from central Pocahontas County. After a brief battle at Mill Point on November 5, the rebel cavalry withdrew to Droop Mountain, where they began work on a defensive position."

Thanks!!

Edit - You supported your position very well. I will accept Mill Point, as well as Droop Mountain, as a correct answer for this question.

According to Wikipedia, Union General Averell attacked a Confederate force under CSA General Echols at Mill Point in Pocahantas County on November 5, 1863, and drove it back to Droop Mountain. On November 6, Averell attacked that force and defeated it in the Battle of Droop Mountain. Mill Point was the lead in to Droop Mountain, but it was the only fighting in WV on November 5, 1863.

Averell attacked Mill Point in Pocahontas county,on Nov.5, 1863, which led to the battle of Droop Mountain the following day.
