This awesome woman is Eugenia Levy Phillips! She was held at the house of the equally impressive Rose O'Neal Greenhow, confined to the attic. The "beast" was none other than Benjamin F. Butler, and the order causing this hullaballoo was Butler's General Order No. 28, also known as the "Woman's Order".

2. Suspected of being part of a Confederate spy ring, she and two of her daughters were held under house arrest at the home of Rose O'Neal Greenhow.
3. The "beast" she encountered was Major General Benjamin "Beast" Butler.
4.
