I was wounded four times during the Civil War, my regiment was also sent to New York City to suppress the Draft Riots. I was brevetted Major General at the end of the war. Post-war I served in the House of Representatives and as Speaker of the House. I re-entered the army during the Spanish-American War and was promoted to Major General in June of 1898. I was also one of the last surviving Union Generals.
