Attached are photos of a small vignette of the 3rd Iowa Cavalry. Figures are 22MM Musket Miniatures and I made the flag.

Welcome to the forum. Nice work, especially on the flag. Why the 3rd Iowa?

No particular reason. I have made many battle flags from numerous States and I wanted to do this scene recognizing a unit that had a good role in the Western theater. I have attached a few more photos of color bearers.

Nos. 1 & 2 22nd Mississippi Infantry, Company E, Liberty Guards, 1862 (obverse & reverse).
No. 3 6th Arkansas Infantry (post Perryville).
No. 4 6th South Carolina Infantry (1862).
No. 5 8th Virginia Infantry (1863).
No. 6 6th Wisconsin Infantry (1861)

I'm pretty impressed. Are all of them 22mm? Even if they are 54 mm how in the world do you get your states and lettering in scale?
When doing stars, I cheat. I use a copy machine and reduce the stars down to the size I want then cut them out and glue them on to the flag. I tell myself they look sewn on when I do it that way.

I was wondering if you had an ancestorial reason for doing the 3rd Iowa.

No reason for the 3rd Iowa. Just wanted to have something representing the Western theater (Note: I assume that most of my relatives were still in Ireland or Germany during the ACW.

With a couple of minor exceptions, all of my "stuff is 20MM (the old K&L /Thomas) 22MM Musket Miniatures or "HO" plastics (Strelets is now producing pretty good ACW figures).

The flags are a labor of love and can be very tedious. Occasionally I will cheat too, but I try to make them as historically accurate as possible based on the resources available (it is interesting how the dimensions of a flag can vary depending on who is doing the measuring).
