It was the Battle of Picacho Peak.

On April 19, 1862, a small dispatch of twelve Union cavalrymen were screening for Confederate pickets when they came across a squad of ten Arizona Confederates. While the Union troops were told not to engage until the rest of the Column arrived, the Federals fired upon the Rebels and a small skirmish began.

Three of the Confederates surrendered early in the skirmish and as Lt. James Barrett, in command of the Union scouts, was loading a prisoner on his horse he was shot in the neck and killed instantly. Without a commander, the Federals retreated and the skirmish resulted in 3 casualties. While the battle was considered a Confederate victory, the Confederate forces in the area retreated to Texas shortly after, leaving the area open to the Union. The engagement has passed into history as the Battle of Picacho Peak.

The Andrews Raid of April, 1862. It was the 1st time Union soldiers went into north Georgia and some of the Raiders would receive the Medal of Honor by the U.S. Congress.

I am not sure this is actually a battle (although I found it on one web site labelled a battle) so for now it’s what I am going with. If I find something else that I think fits the question better - I’ll be back.

Sounds like one of our reenactment skirmishes out here in the Pacific NW, although we usually have at least a few more participants!

One promising candidate is the Battle of Picacho Pass (or Peak), Arizona, April 15, 1862. Per this source http://www.civilwar.org/battlefields/picachopeak.html the particiants were 13 Union, 10 Confederate. Despite being so much outnumbered :D. the Confederates won.

These Questions are getting tricky but I am going to take a shot at it { The Great Locomotive Chase }
Andrews Raiders

The Great Locomotive Chase or Andrews' Raid was a military raid that occurred on April 12, 1862, in northern Georgia during the American Civil War. Volunteers from the Union Army, led by civilian scout James J. Andrews, commandeered a train and took it northward toward Chattanooga, Tennessee, doing as much damage as possible to the vital Western and Atlantic Railroad (W&A) line from Atlanta to Chattanooga as they went. They were pursued by Confederate forces at first on foot, and later on a succession of locomotives for 87 miles.

Because the Union men had cut the telegraph wires, the Confederates could not send warnings ahead to forces along the railway. Confederates eventually captured the raiders and executed some quickly as spies, including Andrews; some others were able to flee. Some of the raiders were the first to be awarded the Medal of Honor by the US Congress for their actions. As a civilian, Andrews was not eligible.

Battle of the Monitor and Merrimac

Edit - Sorry, dinnie58, your answer is not correct. The Monitor and Merrimack (or CSS Virginia) met in March, rather than April of 1862, and the crew of each vessel numbered more than 25 men.

Welcome to CivilWarTalk and to the trivia game, anyway. Hope you'll come back and play again.
