This was another item acquired in a trade many years ago (I gave up a WWII artifact for this). It bears a 19th Corps symbol fashioned from twisted wire (similar to that used on sword grips). Within the corps insignia is a silver 2. The 165th NY was known as the 2nd Duryea Zouaves. This fez matches the color scheme of their headgear. There are 2 small moth eaten areas.
Is it post war or war period?

If it is authentic good trade to you. It was well worth whatever
WW2 relic you had unless it was something
that was worth more money than the fez.

I believe the 165th NY had a blue tassel. That one looks black.
Yes, they are listed as having a red fez with a blue tassel and modeled after the 9th NY Zouave's fez. I have noticed that most images of existing 9th NY Duryea Zouave fez appear to have very the same color of fez, as do some images of 140th NY. I have no idea why that is so. Although at times a tassel does appear as a faded blue.

The 9th NYVI were known as Hawkins' Zouaves, or the NY Zouaves.

The 165th NYVI were in the 3rd brigade, 2nd (Sherman's) division of the 19th Corps, Department of the-Gulf. That could be why there's a 2 in the cross. Here's what the 19th Corps cross looked like.
