26th Massachusetts Regiment weapons

Researching my great great grandfather's service and have spent the past 2 hours on Google trying to find anything at all that references what rifle they would have been issued. He was Mason Wheeler, Company E MA 26th Regiment and served for the entire war. Saw action at Cedar Creek, Ship Island Mississippi and New Orleans and mustered out at the end of the war. I've seen some of the experts here pop up with info almost immediately that rookies like me can search for days for and not find so I'm hoping one of those guys will see this post. Thanks

"An Introduction to Civil War Small Arms" lists the 26th Massachusetts under the column for Model 1855 or 1861 Rifle-Muskets. The Model 1861 being the more likely.
