For those of you that live in Georgia I recommend going to your nearest supermarket and picking up the new issue of Georgia Backroads magazine.

There is an excellent article on the Irish men of the 24th Georgia. Most notably Col. McMillan and the men from White County and the Yonah Mountain area.

The 24th saw action from early on and occupied the stone wall at Fredericksburg. Many of you know this scene from Gods & Generals (sorry to those of you who hate the movie) where the Irish fought the Irish.

At a reorganization the 24th was brigaded with Cobb's and Phillip's Legions, the 16th, and the 18th Georgia to form Wofford's Georgia Brigade (formerly Cobb's Georgia Brigade).

I subscribe to that magazine and really enjoyed the article.
My Great Grandfather E. C. Jackson and other Jackson family was among those White County boys who formed Company C from White County Ga. They saw lots of action up in Va. and followed Longstreet to Ga and Tenn. for action in late 63 into early 64. Then got shipped back to the ANV. I am quite sure those boys wished they could have stayed so close to home for the duration
