True, but documentation is limited, so this is really an educated guess. The monument at Stone Mountain has him riding a horse known as "Blackjack," I have read that the horse was also called "Thunder Blackjack," and just "Thunder."

Other sites give other names for Davis's horses, e.g. Blackjack anf Laughing Lady, but as I he had also a horse named Thunder, my answer is: True

During the Civil War, no, but he did have a favorite horse years prior to the war during his military service named Thunder.
