This may refer to the deaths of rebel Brigadier General James Dearing (1840-1865) and Brevet Brigadier General Theodore Read (1835-1865), who shot and killed each other at close range. Read died immediately; Dearing lingered until April 22. (Technically, Dearing was a Colonel, as his promotion to Brigadier General had not yet been approved by the rebel Congress. He was the last rebel General killed in the conflict.)On April 6, 1865 something strange happened at High Bridge, Virginia. It involved two brigadier generals, one Union and one Confederate. What was that strange event?
