During his presidency Lincoln no doubt received some odd requests in some of the letters addressed to him. Perhaps one of the strangest was sent from Rahway, New Jersey. In it was a demand that Mr. Lincoln assume the mortgage on this person's villa so that a career could be resumed when this opera singer returned to Italy. Who was this opera singer?
