Ever notice there is a ban around the circle ( First Corps) on the top of 19th Indian? Does this have some kind of symbolic meaning? I am also told this ban is on circle on the Maryland Monument at Antietam. If known please cite source.

I think they are referring to the band around the globe at the top of each monument. Its hard to see on the Indiana but if you search the Maryland Monument its easier to see. The Maryland one has stars on the band I think one for each state.

Lots of nice pictures of the 19th Indiana monument at Gettysburg can be seen here.

The website Civil War Cycling makes this observation:

Some 1st Corps monuments are topped with a granite sphere. Not every Gettysburg monument that has a spherical top is a Union 1st Corps monument, however; the 2nd Maryland CSA Monument on Culp's Hill is one obvious exception.

Took these today. Lighting was pretty good.
