19th Century Iron

It's been way too hot to relic hunt lately, so I wanted to post up these little guys for discussion and "show and tell".
This is a 3 1/2 inch travel-size cast clothes iron I found in a Union camp a few years back in west central Mississippi. I can imagine a Union officer carrying this with him in the field. The handle is broken, which is probably why it was discarded.

This is an iron I found this year at a plantation site near Vicksburg. It is shaped like a boat and referred to as a "sad iron". This style employed a wooden handle so the user wouldn't get burned when the iron was hot. You don't see this style too often. In 40+ years of relic hunting, this is the only one like this that I have found.

I was shell hunting a battlefield and had a big iron signal and I thought it would be a cannon ball but it was an iron just like yours. I was pretty disappointed as it was 2 feet deep but it was still cool

Oh yeah...These solid big iron signals do sound like shells.......
