I have a 1841 Whitney it has all of the US acceptance stamps but it has never been modified original caliber and no bayonet lug. I was wonder how it could have missed being upgraded or did not all of these rifles get upgrades

We would love to see photos of your Whitney. There are several reasons it could have not been converted. Many of these were in Southern arsenals and would not have been converted.

I also have one made by Whitney that was never converted. It looks like it was dragged behind a truck, but the bore is like new.
