Colonel William Stephen Walker, CSA

Per a UNC Chapel Hill website;
Telegram, 22 October 1862, from Colonel William Stephen Walker of the Third Military District of South Carolina, commanding officer at Pocotaligo, South Carolina to Confederate Brigadier General Thomas Jordan.
The Battle of Pocotaligo Bridge, which took place on 22 October 1862, was the largest action of a three-day expedition by Union forces intended to disrupt the Charleston & Savannah Railroad. While Colonel Walker led 2000 Confederate soldiers in defending the area between Savannah and Charleston, Federal Brigadier Generals John Milton Brannon and Alfred Terry commanded 4500 troops. Walker was promoted to Brigadier General eight days after the Confederate victory.
