It is impossible to tell how many Confederates fell from just that explosion and most articles about the mine explosion fail to give a casualty count. Fighting ensued for hours immediately following the detonation. Who knew which soldier fell from what explosion? Skeletons were found years later. Plus the 3rd Louisiana was not the only Regiment present, the 5th and 6th Missouri were also present at the Redan. But an answer is required so here goes. I feel the answer is low but according to google/Wikipedia the 3rd LOUISIANA had 6 MEN KILLED and 21 wounded there.

Answers:
1) Six
2) 43rd Mississippi Infantry

Sources have been presented to support answers of either zero, six, or fifty for the number killed. I will accept any of those answers. Sources have also been presented to support an answer of 3rd Louisiana Infantry for the regiment, so I will accept that answer.

I have not been able to find sources to support other answers that were submitted.
