Hard to believe, as Walker ist ranking 28th in the list of most common names in the US. Seems all of them had walked away from the Union army (pun intended). The Rebels had at least 5 Generals named Walker....

How many Union Generals last name was Walker?

No general officers with the surname Walker served in the United States Army during the Civil War.
Five officers were awarded Brigadier General Brevets following the war for service during the war. These were Lt. Col. Duncan Stephen Walker, Major Francis Amasa Walker, Col. Moses B. Walker, Lt. Col. Samuel Walker, and Col. Thomas McCormick Walker.

These 5 by brevet,

Walker, Duncan Stephen - Lt. Col., Asst. Adj.-Gen. U.S.V.
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865

Walker, Francis Amasa - Maj., Asst. Adj.-Gen. U.S.V.
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865

Walker, Moses B. - Col., 31st Regt. Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. 27 March 1865

Walker, Samuel - Lt. Col., 16th Regt. Kansas Volunteer Cavalry
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865

Walker, Thomas McCormick - Col., 111th Regt. Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry

According to this list there were no Union General named "Walker".

HOWEVER - according to this list there were 4 all were Brevet (the question doesn't specify) 5 if you add Thomas McCormick Walker receiving his title after the war ended on July 5, 1865.

Walker, Duncan Stephen - Lt. Col., Asst. Adj.-Gen. U.S.V.
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865
Walker, Francis Amasa - Maj., Asst. Adj.-Gen. U.S.V.
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865
Walker, Moses B. - Col., 31st Regt. Ohio Volunteer Infantry
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. 27 March 1865
Walker, Samuel - Lt. Col., 16th Regt. Kansas Volunteer Cavalry
Brevet Brig. Gen. U.S.V. March 13 1865

Walker, Thomas McCormick - Col., 111th Regt. Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry

In the absence of any specific date in the question I have assumed we are looking for Union officers, surname "Walker", on active service at any time between April 12, 1861 and April 9, 1865 when the war ended. This figure was zero.

However in the months prior to the end of the war a number officers named "Walker" were awarded Brevet General ranking although none of these appointments were ratified prior to the end of the war, April 9, 1865.

Should we be looking to include brevetted "Walkers" then the figure becomes four* with those officers listed below. The names of the four Brevetted generals named "Walker", with appointment date and confirmation are:

* Finally, a fifth "Walker" became a Brevet General but not until three months after the war and as a result I have not included him.
5. Colonel Thomas McCormick Walker, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, was not made Bvt. Brig. Gen. USV, July 5, 1865 and date confirmed March 12, 1866.

You pays your nickel and you takes your choice!
