Edit - Although the source you cited mentions the 1st Kansas Colored Infantry in close proximity to the Kansas Free State Militia, I don't believe the two units are the same. It was the Kansas Free State Militia who wore the red leggings (which cover only the lower part of the leg and are not the same as trousers).

The First South Carolina was the first officially recognized unit of colored troops, and they did wear red trousers, as pictures on this thread indicate.
