I've started on a 1/96 scale Improved Albemarle. Ever since seeing the John Wallis design, I thought this would be a nice model to make.

That's most impressive ,I assume it was constructed on an already existing vessel?

I remember the curator of the Port o' Plymouth Museum telling me that the History Channel would only do the documentary on Cushing if the museum both funded and handled the construction of the replica. I remember being told that the History Channel was upset that it is built at only 3/8 scale. I also remember from the documentary (available on iTunes for $2.99) that it was originally covered in sheet metal.

They should have built it full scale...it looks a little ridiculous watching it on YouTube dueling the the full scale launch replica. Just my 2 cents...

Another view of the Improved Albemarle with another Richmond class IC. The Improved Albemarle is a scale 152 feet long to make the model and even 19 inches and a scale 36 feet wide. The casemate is a scale 50 feet across the deck in length. The model is still in the raw state and filing and sanding and some wood filler is the next step to clean the ship up.
