Henry Albertson Van Zo Post (1832-1914), father of Olympian Albertson Van Zo Post (1866-1938).

The sharpshooting Civil War colonel was Henry Post and his son, the Olympic medalist, was Albertson Van Zo Post.

Singlestick was a form of fencing. The only time it was ever contested in the Olympics was at the 1904 Games held in St. Louis, Missouri. There were only three contestants, all of them from the USA.

Looks like somebody was trying to boost the home country's medal count just a bit.

Edit - Good try, but William F. only won two, not five medals at the Olympics and I can't find any indication that M. R. was William F.'s father or that he attained the rank of colonel.
