rian Cushing, inside linebacker for the Houston Texans is the great-great-grandson of Civil War Medal of Honor winner Alonzo Cushing.
Edit - It seems that one of the announcers on a recent telecast of a Texans game made this statement, so there is a source to support the official correct answer.
I note that several players submitted links to the Wikipedia article on Alonzo Cushing, which states, at the end of the second paragraph, that Alonzo Cushing left no direct descendants. So the claim that Brian Cushing is Alonzo's great-great-grandson is very dubious.
The Wikipedia article on Brian Cushing says that he is descended from the four Cushing brothers who served during the Civil War but does not specify which one. So if Brian is descended from one of the other three, then Alonzo would be Brian's several-times-great uncle. I do note, however, that despite the diligent efforts of all of our players to research this topic, no one seems to have been able to come up with any Internet source that states definitively which one of the four was Brian's great-great-grandfather.
Anyway, I'm going to give credit to everyone who mentioned Alonzo or any of the other Cushing brothers, which basically means I will give credit to everyone who answered this question.
