I am a graduate of West Point in one of the early classes. I served in the United States Army and was known as being an Honest inspector. I was an iron manufacturer and railroad president as well as Railroad Engineer. I joined the Union Army at the start of the war and was present at First Bull Run. I Served as a Brigadier General. I resigned from the army due to my age. After the war I was a leader in the founding of a town. What's my name and what town did I help found?

Hm, this question rings a bell...

You are Daniel Tyler and you helped found the town of Anniston (named after your daughter in law)
